After the meeting, Mr. Yee and Minister Bushati gave a joint press conference. In his speech, the Albanian top diplomat thanked the United States for the assistance they have provided over the years in the road to European integration, and expressed the government's commitment to reforms needed in the fight against corruption, organized crime and democratization.
"I thank the U.S. for the help given to Albania in the hard way in the process of European integration. I assured Yee that Albania will continue reforms in the rule of law, corruption and organized crime to justice transformed in the most democratic Albanian society and for economic development, "said Mr. Bushati .
The top U.S. diplomat praised the cooperation between the two countries, thanked Albania for its contribution within NATO in Afghanistan and called for further cooperation.
"We discussed the close relations between Albania and the United States and our desire to deepen these relationships. As said by the Minister we've discussed about our common goal to accelerate the efforts of Albania to the EU and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to support Albania in achieving this goal, including the fight against organized crime and corruption. I express my gratitude for the contribution of country of Albania in NATO, ISAF in Afghanistan particularly where Albanian and U.S. forces are working side by side for stability and peace there. We have examined the positive role of Albania in the region to strengthen good relations between neighbors and working together with other countries in the region, "said Secretary of State, Hoyt Brian Yee.
Earlier, the U.S. diplomat met the Head of the Assembly, Ilir Meta. The meeting assessed the relations between Albania and the United States, while Meta said he would continue to focus on constructive dialogue and inclusion in parliamentary proceedings.
